OFFICE OF GOVERNOR MARK DAYTON: THE GIFS
"In a Drawer" (2018)
When reporters asked a Republican legislator why the House hadn't introduced their bonding bill yet, he said he had it "in a drawer" somewhere. I created this GIF in response.
Since this was soon after Rep. Melissa Hortman made headlines for breaking up "the all white male card game" on the House floor, the GIF originally featured a deck of cards tucked behind the other desk clutter. I had to remove it, but the women in the office appreciated it ;)
"We're #3!" (2017)
The infamous cone of salad! We Minnesotans love to brag about ourselves (modestly, of course), and we're very proud of our lore. So when we were named the #3 best state by U.S. News and World Report, I made this GIF celebrating Minnesota with Paul Bunyan and Babe in attendance. It was a hit!
"Fishing Opener" (2017)
In the Land of 10,000 Lakes, fishing season is a big, big deal. This was my first foray into cartoon versions of Governor Dayton and (now Senator) Tina Smith, who always caught more fish.
"The Stadium is Open" (2017)
For U.S. Bank Stadium's Grand Opening, I really wanted to showcase its iconic swinging walls. Creating that effect was a challenge, but I'm happy with how it turned out. I love how you can see the little yellow goal posts peeking through!
"The Dessert" (2016)
I created this GIF during the 2016 legislative session when a Republican legislator referred to Governor Dayton's bonding bill as "dessert" that could wait until after the "main course" bills.
Of course, we disagreed. Nobody wants a melted ice cream bar, and nobody wants a state without adequate public works.
"Paid Parental Leave" (2016)
Part of Governor Dayton's goal to ensure paid family leave for Minnesota's 38,000 state employees. Yes, I calculated all the numbers myself. Who says artists can't do math?
