NATURE STUDY
Nature Study is a series of mixed media collages and accompanying assemblages that incorporate found materials, including cell phones and outdated natural history textbooks, to explore relationships between technology and human interaction. The phrases on the collages are meant to represent casually observed trends in behavior--for example, anxiety over whether or not to be the first one to send a text--written as if they were the body text in the natural history textbooks themselves. The cell phones arranged below the collages then become characters within those narratives, representing not just the means of communication, but anthropomorphized to stand in for their owners, the communicators. How is our "nature" distorted when our relationships are aided by technology?
